As the autumn break begins, students can catch their breaths after the first half of the semester, and prepare themselves for the end-of-semester rush. In our article, we put together a list filled with eventful, versatile, and exciting programs, so that every moment during the holiday and relaxation becomes a meaningful memory.

ETELE Cinema Fright Night 2025 - October 31. – Bekiarisz Efi
Many like to celebrate the scariest night of the year with a horror movie. ETELE cinema has the perfect offer, since on the 31st of October, one has the chance to binge-watch horror movies all night long. The event starts at six p.m. and finishes at the same time in the morning. Visitors can watch more than 30 spine-chilling movies in 9 screening rooms. Besides, they are preparing some extra programs, like a costume contest for valuable prizes, a free photobooth, and last but not least, a movie quiz. The cinema snack bar also adapts on the day of the event, since it will be open all night and serve Halloween menus, suitable for the occasion. This is the perfect program for those in love with movies and those who do not fear the genre of horror. Tickets start at 6990 Ft, but you can find out more through this link.
BIFF – Budapest International Film Festival – Izrael Gréta
At the end of October, Budapest once again becomes the capital of movies during the Budapest International Film Festival. Between the 25th of October and the 2nd of November they await movie fans at Corvin cinema and other special places with more than 50 screenings. The program lineup consists of dramas, award-winning masterpieces, and exciting international movies, in their original version with Hungarian and English subtitles. Tickets start at 2400 Ft, but there are passes available. The festival not only offers screenings but also professional roundtable discussions, and unique local and other community events to enrich the program. The true goal of BIFF is to make Budapest the center of international filmmaking.
Garden of Lights – Izrael Gréta
With the arrival of autumn and the clock changing, the city becomes dark earlier, and therefore it is harder to figure out how to spend one's evenings. Budapest once again offers a unique program that becomes quite magical in the dark: the Garden of Lights exhibition enchants visitors with thousands of glowing string lights, magical installations, and creative light shows. This year, the garden is inspired by the world of Peter Pan, so that guests can wander around Neverland, and can relive the moments of childhood curiosity. Garden of Lights is not only a light festival, but the perfect family program, a romantic location for date night, or just a place for a peaceful break. In the company of a glass of warm beverage, and the spectacular light show, you can be part of an unforgettable autumn experience, as if you were walking on the streets of London and through the magical world of Neverland. Tickets start at 4600 Ft, and you can find out more about opening hours on their webpage.
Lillafüred – Bekiarisz Efi
“I'm sitting here on a shimmering precipice. I make my heart get used to the silence. It's not that hard – what glided away, now swarms over here, the head bends over, and the hand dangles.” The quote is a part of Attila József’s poem, the Óda, and its uniqueness lies in the fact that it was written in Lillafüred. The landscape is poetic, romantic, and especially colorful and magical during autumn, so it is no wonder that our poet was inspired by it. Lillafüred is the perfect place for autumn hikes, since it is located only a few hours away from Budapest, and because of how many must-see attractions it offers; just as idyllic, fairytale-like Palotaszálló, the chairlift, the miniature railway, the famous waterfall, moreover, the Hámori lake, where one has the chance even to take a boat ride. Even though this small city is beautiful every season, autumn is definitely the most ideal time to visit.
Székesfehérvár – Izrael Gréta
A hidden gem is only an hour away from Budapest: Székesfehérvár. The city’s biggest tourist attraction is the Bory castle, the perfect destination for an autumn outing. This building truly represents what romance is, since Jenő Bory built it for more than forty years as a present for his beloved, so love really shows through every bit of this landmark. Its marvelous towers, detailed statues, and the autumn colors of the surrounding park all assure a unique atmosphere and scenery. After exploring the Bory castle, it is worth heading to the city center, since St. Stephen’s Cathedral and the Basilica ruins are free of charge and offer a great insight into critical historical moments. In the city center, many cafes and patisseries provide hot beverages and small delicacies, which can be an ideal end to a meaningful, eventful day.
