Students' Survival Guide For The Exam Season

The exam season has started at Corvinus University of Budapest. We understand how stressful and difficult this time may get -- been there, done that. However, no matter how important the exams get, you should always take care of yourself first. We have prepared a survival guide for students during assessment period to help you stay afloat and not get carried away with studying too much.

Take Care of Yourself

During exams, it is easy to neglect self-care. But if you don’t prioritize your physical and mental health, it won’t end well. Make sure you get enough sleep. If you pull all-nighters (we know, it’s necessary sometimes), get a good rest after it. Keep an eye on what you eat, how much water you drink, and avoid drinking too much coffee or eating a lot of fast food. Remember to take breaks while studying, go on short walks, and breathe a lot of fresh air to keep you mind sane. After all, the exam period will end, and it will not be worthy of neglected mental and physical health.

Set Realistic Goals

Aiming high is a great idea, but not at the expense of everything else. Assess the work you did throughout the semester, and set realistic goals for the exam period. Break it down into smaller steps and take one at a time in order to achieve them. Don’t try to jump over your head or study till your heart stops. If you set the right goals and manage your time properly, you will do your best during the exam period.

Don’t Hesitate to Ask For Help

A lot of students are shy to ask for help and clarification, but there is nothing to worry about. Professors and teachers are there to help you achieve your best results. Especially during the time when everything you have learned because a one piece of information you have to untangle. That, of course, can be challenging. Don’t hesitate to ask questions – it is so much better to get clarification then to try and figure it out yourself and get confused even more. Also, you can form study groups with your classmates to work on the material together. It’s fun and effective!

Try Different Study Techniques

Oh, there is plenty. From flashcards to mind apps, and more. There are even mobile apps that will help you implement those techniques in practice. Read more about it in our article. Trying out different study techniques make you understand what way of learning works best for you, and it saves you time, because instead of just reading mindlessly through the material, you actually learn something. Experiment with flashcards or online quizzes to test your knowledge, and use your time to study effectively.

Try Staying Motivated and Positive

Yeah, we know, it’s not the best piece of advice to give. Not a lot of people can stay positive when one exam comes after another, and it seems like they will never end. But, trust us, they will, and you will not even remember them. Surround yourself with friends who will either keep you motivated, or suffer through it with you, or both – this works best! Maintaining a positive mindset is very important to keep your mental health in tact during exam season. Just push yourself forward a little more, and then there is a whole summer ahead of you!

The exam period can be overwhelming, but with proper planning, effective study techniques, and self-care, you can do your best, and even have some fun during it. Remember, it's not just about the grades, but also about the knowledge and skills you acquire along the way. Be kind to yourself, and stay focused. By following this survival guide, you will be prepared for anything that this exam season throws at you, and you will get out of it as a hero. We believe in you!
