Music festivals in Hungary 2022: time to celebrate the end of the semester!

Hungarian culture is known for leaning towards art in every way possible – whether it be music, theatre, literature, or any other form of creativity one can think about. Since it is summertime, festivals are coming into the picture. You can find a perfect place to hang out by yourself or with your friends in Budapest and in smaller cities.


Here is a list of the most expected festivals of this summer in Hungary. Prepare your wallets – it’s time to spend some money on well-deserved activities after an exhausting semester!


1. VOLT Festival 2022


VOLT is a 5 day long multi-genre music festival in Sopron, a sweet small town just a couple of hours away from Budapest. The festival has been running since 1993, and every year it is gaining more and more attention. Several stages, lots of different music genres as well as theatre performances, film screening and many more cultural events are waiting for you. This year’s line-up is promising, to say the least: The Killers, Muse, Bring Me The Horizon, and Sum 41 are the headliners. The festival starts on the 21st of June and goes until the 25th. 2. Sziget Festival (Sziget Fesztivál)


This festival needs no introduction – even if you are not into music, you must have heard about Sziget at least once. It is one of the largest music festivals in Europe with more than 1000 performances taking places there every year. People from all over the world come to Hungary to visit Sziget, and 2022 is no exception – the line-up is simply legendary. Dua Lipa, Justin Bieber, Stromae, Arctic Monkeys – those are just a couple of the musicians that Sziget stage is going to welcome this summer. The festival will be held between the 10th and 15th of August on a beautiful Óbuda-Island in the heart of Budapest. 3. Balaton Sound 2022


Balaton Sound is an open-air electronic music festival that is held every year on the southern bank of Lake Balaton. The event was co-created by the organizers of Sziget Festival, so it is definitely worth a visit. Sunsets on the lake, beloved musicians on several stages, delicious food, and free people by your side – what else do you need to make this summer unforgettable? In 2022, Balaton Sound will take place from the 29th of June until the 2nd of July. Some of this year’s headliners are Martin Garrix, Marshmello, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Alesso. 4. STRAND Festival


Strand Festival is a multi-genre music festival that takes places in Zamardi on Balaton shores. However, it is not only about music – at Strand you can also do swimming, yoga, participate in carnival games and water balloon fights. Each year the festival strengthens its line-up, and in 2022 you can hear well-known international as well as Hungarian musicians on Strand’s stages. Clean Bandit, Tom Walker, Sean Paul, Carson Coma, and many more are announced to play at the festival.
