Navigating Campus Life as an International Student

Being an international student is a transformative experience. You get challenged and rewarded, happy and sad, homesick, and perfectly fit into the picture of your new life. All of this happens at once, most of the time. Corvinus University of Budapest is known for its diverse and vibrant student community, as well as rich academic heritage. Here, your international student experience will be unique, with all its ups and downs.

If you want to know how to navigate your campus life here, read on, and don’t be scared to start this new chapter of your life – we are here to help!

Culture Shock is Normal

Give yourself a break. The multicultural environment of Budapest and especially of Corvinus exposes international students to a diversity of languages, traditions, and perspectives. That being said, the diversity can also be a reason for a culture shock – a natural response to the unfamiliar customs and norms of a new environment.

It is important to understand that you may need some time to adjust to the new lifestyle you are building here. Everything unknown around you can seem scary, but time will go by, and you will find yourself fitting right into something that once was unfamiliar. Culture shock is a thing a lot of international students go through, so don’t afraid of it – embrace the diversity of your surroundings and remember to give space to yourself.

Ask For Help

If you feel that you need help, do not hesitate to ask for it. Here at Corvinus University, we want you to feel safe to talk about your problems and feelings you go through while being away from home and trying to build a new life for yourself. Meeting a lot of new people and having all of the experiences that come with being a student can be a lot.

Recognizing the challenges the international students face, we are happy to provide support services for you! Corvinus offers free psychological support, 6 sessions each semester with a qualified specialist. Whatever problem you may have – from social anxiety to homesickness – we are here to help you go through it and make you realize that you are not alone. You can read more about it here.

Build Lasting Connections

Navigating your life at the University means meeting people you can potentially build long-lasting international relationships and friendships with. Shared experiences, challenges and successes create a bond like no other. Corvinus promotes a very active student life, so make sure to check out our student organizations and follow our social media channels to always be updated on the events we hold.

We create multiple platforms for students to come together, connect and collaborate. The connections you build here will extend beyond classrooms and graduation, offering a global network that will be a huge part of both, personal and professional life.

Don’t Miss Out On Academic Opportunities

Corvinus University's commitment to academic excellence is a driving force behind its popularity among international students. Here, the brightest minds from all over the world come together to learn and create. Make sure to get the best out of it and grab the opportunities you see.

However, don’t be too hard on yourself about achieving everything at once. As we mentioned earlier, building a new life at the University from scratch takes time, so don’t rush it – feel it to the fullest instead! Supported by our dedicated professors, you and your classmates can build a stimulating academic environment mixed with lots of fun and incredible experiences.

Navigating campus life as an international student at Corvinus University of Budapest is a journey filled with discovery, challenges, and growth. Trust us, even though this path is not easy, every part of it is definitely worth it. By joining our diverse community, you are enriching both, your life, and the life of the University, and we cannot wait to see what you bring to us!
